Seattle DOT recently launched an innovative parking system which features the latest in Daktronics LED display technology. The Center City Parking Project, known as e-Park, efficiently informs and guides visitors to available parking spaces in select facilities in the downtown area. This system is aimed at reducing traffic congestion, emissions and frustration in the downtown area. Much of the targeted traffic stems from current major construction projects such as the Alaskan Way Viaduct and the Seawall project.
To accompany the e-Park system, Seattle DOT rolled out an interactive online parking map which shows all parking facilities and includes real-time data for all six e-Park facilities in the downtown area. Before leaving home, Seattle residents and visitors can find a parking garage and understand what they’ll encounter on their trip to the downtown area.
This is a great example of how agencies can connect with and serve their travelers by integrating real-time data sources with digital LED signage and the internet.
