VIEWING DISTANCE

Think about the viewing distance as you create messages in Venus® 1500 software. Using the right size font will result in much more effective messages.

Here are some simple rules (keep in mind, 360 feet is a city block):

  • For text to be visible from 150 feet, letters must be at least 4 inches tall.
  • For text to be visible from 525 feet, letters must be at least a foot tall.

Also see the “Content and Viewing Distance” page in Create Dynamic Digital Messages.

If you’re interested in which fonts are the most readable, see our posts “Easy-to-Read Messages,” and “Fonts That Work.”

MOVING AUDIENCE

In addition to the viewing distance, consider your audience. Are they standing still or walking? If they are driving, how fast are they going? Remember your customers may have only 3 to 4 seconds to recognize and comprehend your display’s content.

This is what the software training team suggests:

  • Use 4 to 6-inch text for 45 mph or slower traffic, such as for church or school applications.
  • Use 8-inch text or larger for most other outdoor applications when traffic is 60 mph or slower.

Don’t forget to access our new Font Size Calculator to discover the size of your font on the display.
