Spectacular outdoor signage isn’t new to Detroit. A hundred years ago, huge signs on top of buildings in downtown Detroit reached out to consumers (right).

Today, if digital billboard-friendly regulations pass, property owners might earn $1,000 to $5,000 a month renting their rooftops to OOH companies.

Advocates believe Detroit can use the kind of excitement and energy LED signs generate in Times Square and Tokyo.
